In today’s world of factory farming, it is easy to forget that all living creatures have a face, a voice, and feelings. “Animals are not Barcodes” and “Life is not a Barcode” make powerful statements of love for life, and caring for the creatures we share this world with.
This design was created mixing overlapping inspirations. The first of which was the barcode, the symbol of shopping efficiency in an era where consumerism is all-consuming. What was once a life, is dissected to become a slew of coded products that are sent out, scanned and eaten. There is no thought about the taking of life to fulfill our own desires for flesh, at any price. When the barcode has an animal super-imposed on it, it reminded me of the bars that are used in the cages that hold billions of living creatures around the planet in discomfort and suffering until their deaths. These visions paired to create the Barcode Collection.
